When Russia chose their 2012 entry three weeks ago, they passed over a pop hit from past Eurovision winner Dima Bilen in duet with former t.a.t.u. lead singer and Eurovision runnerup Julia Volkova.
What could possibly have toppled a heavyweight entry featuring TWO Eurovision veteran hitmakers? How about this, the most successful of this year’s bumper crop of “joke entries”? The Buryanovskiye Babushki are a sextet of Russian grannies who belt out a tenderly-squawked ballad that abruptly kicks into gear as a party-down Central Asian floorfiller!
This clip is already a youtube viral sensation and has been featured on such unusual venues for a Eurovision entry as NBC’s TODAY SHOW. (You might think this is the weirdest thing in this year’s contest, but you would be sooo wrong…)
