Don’t get distracted by the Eurovision hooligans mixing it up in the audience of Irish Eurosong 2014. Because meanwhile, the entry chosen during the show is pretty fantastic! Can-Linn featuring Kasey Smith’s “Heartbeat” is an excellent song and perfect for Eurovision.
Some viewers accused the Celtic-tinged midtempo song as ripping off “Only Teardrops”, but they must not remember the mid 2000s when every song mimicked the ethno-pop style of “Wild Dances” and “Every Way That I Can”. Using the style that is currently popular in Eurovision to write a new song is hardly plagiarism. Here is the newsly-crowned entry for Ireland:
(And MANY congratulations to the excellent Jonas Gladnikoff, who now has co-composed the winning song for Ireland three times.)
