Semifinal One, Jury Rehearsal Monday Night (First Impressions)

Vienna has done a spectacular job so far in playing host to the Eurovision Song Contest.  Unfortunately, so far it seems like the Austrian broadcaster, ORF, has a ways to go  to achieve the level of quality Eurofans expect in the broadcast.  The actual performances look and sound great, so that is the most important part.  But the hosts, interval entertainment and other wraparound bits are falling a bit flat.

Here are my revised predictions for who I believe will go through tonight when the televotes and jury votes are combined to qualify ten acts to Saturday’s Grand Final:

Semi-Final 1 (my choice of ten qualifiers in BOLD)

  1. Moldova
  2. Armenia
  3. Belgium
  4. The Netherlands
  5. Finland
  6. Greece
  7. Estonia
  8. FYR Macedonia
  9. Serbia
  10. Hungary
  11. Belarus
  12. Russia
  13. Denmark
  14. Albania
  15. Romania
  16. Georgia

I have to say a good case can be made for any of these 16 to make the finals.  So though these are the choices I believe will resonate with juries and viewers, almost nothing could surprise me when the votes are tallied and the semifinalists announced tonight at 11.processional2

  1. Oops, I misunderstood. That was the lineup order. But I stand by my love for Eduard and Moldova.
